Formative pruning of street trees in Girona

Small training cuts to avoid problems and reduce future maintenance

In 2025 we started a formative pruning project in the city of Girona. The aim of this pruning is to prepare the tree structure in such a way that maintenance is easier in the future. By making reductions and small cuts, you can prepare the trees so that they can be easily passed by traffic and pedestrians when they are large. It is also useful in avoiding problems with co-dominant trunks and defective joints, such as those with bark included.

But the biggest advantage of this pruning is the reduction in maintenance costs during the life of the tree. If the tree structure is well developed, it will be able to grow almost freely with a minimum of pruning interventions.
